Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) – August 19, 2026 – DFO is issuing a notice to stop fishing the Atlantic mackerel bait fishery in all Mackerel Fishing Areas as of 12:00 PM ADT (Atlantic Daylight Time) on August 20, 2026, as bait landings have nearly reached the second 466.67 tonnes (t) portion of the total allowable catch (TAC).
The third opening for the 2026 Atlantic mackerel bait fishery is planned for early October and will be communicated separately.
Important reminder
The Gulf Region reminds participants that they must forward the paper logbook to the Dockside Monitoring Company with which an agreement has been made, within seven days following the date indicated in this notice to stop fishing.
