2026 - Gulf Region Electronic Logbooks (ELOGs) Newsletter: Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence Scallop Fishery, Scallop Fishing Area (SFA) 21, 23 and 24

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) reminds Gulf Region harvesters to report all mandatory information, as specified in the annex of the licence conditions, when completing their electronic logbook (ELOG) for each scallop fishing trip, and to pay particular attention to the following details:

No fishing activity:

  • Harvesters who have no scallop fishing activity during the fishing season are not required to purchase an ELOG application.

Electronic Logbook (ELOG) Application Form:

  • The ELOG application form to be used for the scallop fishery is: Bivalve Mollusks, Squid and Whelk.
    • The option to select scallop as the targeted species is available within this specific application form.

Gear type:

  • To select the proper gear type, please follow these instructions:
    • Fishing Gear: Select “Dredge (boat)”.
    • Details about gear: Select either “Dredge Digby” or “Dredge with a sweep chain”.

Other important reporting details:

  • DFO Region: Select the Gulf Region.
  • Vessel Registration Number (VRN) and Fisher Identification Number (FIN): 
    • Make sure that the VRN and FIN correspond to the licence number indicated in the fishing effort section.
    • Do not include dashes (-) when entering the FIN.
  • Species at Risk: Report all interactions.
  • Licence number: Must be 6 digits (add leading zeros if needed).
  • Landing: Only one completed landing section per fishing trip.
  • Personal Consumption Use:
    • All catches that are kept on-board the vessel and are not sold to a registered buyer must be declared as personal consumption/use.
  • Catch: 
    • Complete for each trip, even with no catch.
    • This includes the total weight captured, including catches reported under personal consumption use.
  • Hail Out section: Complete for each fishing trip.
