As an interim management measure pending results of the 2026 Atlantic mackerel assessment on May 27th, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) will release 220 tonnes of the Atlantic mackerel Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for the competitive, personal-use bait fishery.
This fishery will be open to all four DFO regions in Atlantic Canada and Quebec on May 27, 2026.
Following the stock assessment on May 27, 2026, and subsequent discussions with AMAC, the Department will communicate the 2026 management approach for Atlantic mackerel.
The meeting of the Atlantic mackerel Advisory Committee referenced above will be held on June 3, 2026, to discuss the results of the assessment and associated management measures. The meeting will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Atlantic Time) and will be conducted via Zoom.
