2025 - Safety at sea and opening date of Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 23, Sub-Areas 23 C and D

Tracadie, New-Brunswick (N.-B.) – April 29, 2025 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is announcing the opening date for the lobster fishery in LFA 23, sub-areas 23 C and D. The lobster season for subareas 23 C and D will open at 6 a.m. on Friday May 2nd, 2025, and will close on July 2nd, 2025.


We will continue to monitor the weather forecast to ensure a safe opening of the fishery.


DFO wishes to remind fish harvesters to take extra care when navigating on the opening day of the lobster fishery as vessels are loaded with gear and traps. Harvesters are encouraged to act diligently in setting their traps and should ensure that vessels are loaded safely by reducing the
quantity of gear if necessary.


A navigation warning (NAVWARN) is in effect for Tabusintac in New Brunswick due to dredging work and is available at the following address: NAVWARN details. A navigation warning (NAVWARN) is also in effect for Pigeon Hill in New Brunswick due to dredging work and is available at the following address: NAVWARN details.


Users are to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance from the land-based dredging equipment that may be actively working in these areas. DFO wishes to remind fish harvesters to exercise caution when navigating in locations where dredging operations are on-going.
