2024 - Northern Shrimp - Areas 8, 9, 10 and 12 TAC Distribution for the Season

Quebec - January 29, 2024 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) - Quebec Region wishes to inform shrimp harvesters in the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence of the distribution of the Northern shrimp Total Allowable Catches (TACs) for Fishing Areas 8, 9, 10 and 12 among the various groups for the upcoming fishing season.

In line with the sharing stabilized in 2009, the TACs will be distributed as follows:

Distribution of Group A allocation in the Esquiman area (8) between Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec Harvesters

Newfoundland and Labrador shrimpers will be allocated 1,143.8 tons. Quebec traditional shrimpers will receive 130 tons, and Lower North Shore Shrimpers will be allocated 12.8 tons.

Distribution of Group B allocations in the four areas among Quebec and New Brunswick First Nations and fish harvesters

The sharing arrangements of the Group B allocation for the 2024 fishing season will be discussed with First Nations and Group B representatives.

DFO plans to hold an additional meeting of the Estuary and Gulf Shrimp Advisory Committee in the coming weeks to further discuss the management measures included in the 2024 Conservation Harvesting Plan to be released prior to the start of the fishing season. Advisory Committee members will receive an invitation shortly.
