Public Engagement

Increasing public participation in the sustainable development of aquaculture in PEI

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the Prince Edward Island Department of Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture are continuing to support the sustainable development of the aquaculture industry. Both government and industry are increasing opportunities for interested people to engage in the lease application process. These opportunities will help ensure that everyone can participate in the sustainable development of aquaculture in the province.

About public engagement

Public engagement is a key step in PEI's lease application process. Applications can be reviewed online and comments can be made by email to PEIAquaculture@dfo-mpo.gc.ca. Consideration will only be given to public comments as they relate to the PEI Shellfish Aquaculture Leasing Policy, The Fisheries Act and its regulations or other legislation that governs the shellfish aquaculture sector.

Information about the program, applications and the guidelines for aquaculture leases are available on this website. New applications will be published on this page: Aquaculture - Applications Under Review.

Constructive feedback is essential because it helps shape aquaculture’s success as a user of a public resource.

All comments received before the public comment period ends are considered during the lease application review.
