Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) reminds Gulf Region harvesters to report all mandatory information, as specified in the annex of the licence conditions, when completing their electronic logbook (ELOG) for each lobster fishing trip, and to pay particular attention to the following details:
Reminder for those designated to fish under a licence belonging to a First Nation:
- Anyone designated to fish under a licence belonging to a First Nation must have their personal GCKey and ELOG key.
- Each designated harvester must enter their personal ELOG key into their personal ELOG application when fishing on behalf of an Indigenous group.
- The designated harvester(s) must also enter the Indigenous group's Fisher Identification Number (FIN) and licence number when submitting data into their personal ELOG application.
Inactivity report:
- As previously communicated, the requirement for lobster licence holders to submit nil reports on days when there is no fishing activity is paused for the 2026 season.
Other important reporting details:
- DFO Region: Select the Gulf Region for Lobster Fishing Areas (LFAs) 23, 24, 25 and 26
- Vessel Registration Number (VRN) and FIN:
- Make sure that the VRN and FIN correspond to the licence number indicated in the fishing effort section.
- Do not include dashes (-) when entering the FIN.
- Bait Used: Indicate the type of bait used for each fishing trip.
- Species at Risk: Report all interactions.
- Licence number: Must be 6 digits (add leading zeros if needed).
- Fishing Effort:
- Immersion time: If the immersion time is zero (0) and the application does not allow zero as an entry, please indicate one (1).
- Number of gear hauled: If the number of gear hauled is zero (0) and the application does not allow zero as an entry, please indicate one (1).
- Personal Consumption Use:
- All catches that are kept on-board the vessel and are not sold to a registered buyer must be declared as personal consumption/use.
- Catch:
- Complete for each trip, even with no catch.
- This includes the total weight captured, including catches reported under personal consumption use.
- Landing: Only one completed landing section per fishing trip.
