Tracadie, New-Brunswick (NB) – May 1st, 2026 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announces the opening of the lobster fishery in Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 23, subareas A and B, and a delay in LFA 23, subareas C and D.
The lobster season in subareas A and B will open at 6 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 2026, and close on July 3, 2026.
The lobster fishery in LFA 23, subareas C and D, is delayed and will not open on May 4, 2026, as previously announced, due to adverse weather conditions.
We will continue to monitor the weather conditions. Conference calls will be held between DFO and stakeholders in subareas C and D to ensure a safe opening based on weather and safety conditions.
DFO wishes to remind fish harvesters to take extra care when navigating on the opening day of the lobster fishery as vessels are loaded with gear and traps. Harvesters are encouraged to act diligently in setting their traps and should ensure that vessels are loaded safely by reducing the quantity of gear if necessary.
