2023 - Bluefin Tuna Catch and Release Fishery Training Sessions and Bluefin Tuna Commercial Fishery Logbook Information Sessions

Moncton, New Brunswick (NB) – June 19, 2023 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announces upcoming training sessions for the bluefin tuna catch and release fishery and information sessions on the new logbook for the bluefin tuna commercial fishery that will take place in the Gulf Region. Details and locations of these sessions are described below. No need to register in advance to participate.

These sessions are aimed at tuna licence holders and any interested members of the tuna fishing industry.

Training for the catch and release fishery

Training for the catch and release fishery will be mandatory for all tuna licence holders wishing to obtain a bluefin tuna catch and release licence in 2023. The first session will be held at 9:00 am, on July 11 at the Farm Center located at 420 University Ave, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI). A second session will take place at 10:00 am, on July 13 at the Microtel by Wyndham, located at 62 Nova Landing, Antigonish, Nova Scotia (NS).

Licence holders unavailable to participate to these sessions are requested to contact their local DFO area office to take other arrangements.

Information sessions on the new logbook for the bluefin tuna commercial fishery

Information sessions will be offered to bluefin tuna licence holders interested in obtaining information on how to complete the new bluefin tuna logbook that will be in effect in the commercial fishery in 2023. Sessions will be held at 1:00 pm on July 11 and at 9:00 am on July 12, at the Farm Center located at 420 University Ave, Charlottetown, PEI., and at 2:00 pm on July 13 at the Microtel by Wyndham, located at 62 Nova Landing, Antigonish, NS.

Virtual sessions in both official languages will also be available to all Atlantic tuna licence holders at a later date. Details and links will be communicated in a separate notice.
